Everett Wheeler Obituary

An outstanding man, Everett "Bud" Wheeler, 92, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, April 23, 2015. He was born March 15, 1923, to Ernest and Cora (Helgeson) Wheeler in Colfax, WI. He attended school in Colfax until enlisting in the Army in 1942. He served in WWII, the second wave of Normandy, and in the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Army National Guard with a total of 22 years in the military. On July 16, 1943, he married Winnifred Myrick in a garden wedding at the Myrick home while on leave. Of that union 3 daughters were born - Denise (David "Butch") Jensen, Sherry Marx, and Tamara (Joel) Dahlby; 5 grandchildren - Wendy (Gene) Erdman, Shawn (Sherina) Jensen, Matthew Marx, Kristin (Scott) Glidden, & Lucas Marx; Step-grandchildren – Tara & Joshua Dahlby; 5 great grandchildren - Tyler, Hunter, Griffin, Quintin, & Janelle; step great granddaughter - Brailyn Over the years he worked at Presto Industries, Nelson Milk Hauling, Elk Mound Trailer Sales, and Olive Garden and was owner/operator of his own café, The Bud-Winn. He loved his family unconditionally, fishing, square dancing, visiting the casinos, wintering in Arizona and playing pinochle and "Mexican Train." He was well known for his sense of humor and practical jokes. He is survived by his wife, of 71 years, Winnifred, daughters and their families; 1 sister Betty Faanas and brother-in-law Merle Quale; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; a brother and sister in infancy; sisters Lorraine, Cleo, Fern, and Grace, and brother Earl. Also brothers and sisters-in-law Norman & Crystal, Vincent & Ann, Ray, Otto, Leo, Ruth & Oscar "Tubby" Faanas. Many, many thanks to the staff at Luther Hospital for their care and compassion. A Celebration of Life will be Wednesday, April 29th, 2:00 -4:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, in Elk Mound with Pastor Margaret DeMaris officiating. Military Honors will be conducted at church at 2:00 p.m. by the Colfax American Legion Russell Toycen Post 131. Burial will be at Waneka Cemetery at later date.
