Gardella J. Aspen

Gardella J. Aspen, 85, of Colfax, died Monday, April 10, 2017, at the Colfax Health & Rehabilitation Center. Gardella was born on October 15, 1931, a daughter to Alexander “Allie” and Mamie (Wagner) Steinmetz in Boyd, WI. She married William Marko, Jr. on August 24, 1949, in Minnesota. Of this union, 12 children were born. After William’s death in November 1967, Gardella married Orvald Aspen in August of 1969, at the Colfax Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Colfax area until June of 1992 when they retired. Orvald died in September of 1996. She was a homemaker, helped on the farm, and worked at an area nursing home for 17 years. She is survived by six daughters, Lois (Jim) Goodnature of Albert Lea, MN, Linda (Bruce) Rundle of Colfax, WI, Marla of Colfax, WI, Pam (Rod) Brendel of Dallas, WI, Sherri (Guy) Haseltine of Colfax, WI, and Nancy (Mike) Klick of Eau Claire, WI; six sons, Larry (Linda) Marko of AZ, Dennis Marko of Eau Claire, WI, Steven Marko of OR, Douglas Marko of Colfax, WI, Donald Marko of Colfax, WI, and Ronald (Laura) Marko of IL; four step-children; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gardella was preceded in death by her first husband, William Marko, Jr.; her second husband, Orvald Aspen; her parents; one daughter, Debra; three sisters, Dorothy Breezee, Jeverna Johnson, Bernice Eisenhuth; and one brother, Floyd Steinmetz. Memorial Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Sampson Funeral Home, 1017 Railroad Ave, Colfax, with Pastor Leslie Walck officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Colfax, at a later date.
