Gaylon Gotliebson Obituary

Gaylon Philip Gotliebson of Colfax, WI, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire. Gaylon was born on March 12, 1936, in Colfax. He was the son of Gisle and Ellen (Gunderson) Gotliebson. He grew up in the Colfax area, going to Twin Valley Grade School and graduating from Colfax High School with the Class of 1954. He served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961, serving in Fort Lewis, WA and Korea. On May 23, 1964, Gaylon married Lois Hunwardsen in Correctionville, IA. They had one son, Ricky, who was his best friend. Gaylon worked for the D.H.I.A., American Breeders Service and Tri-State. He also worked for Armour Meats in Eau Claire and for Colfax Farmers Union for 20 years. He was a member of Holden Lutheran Church all his life. He served as treasurer, cemetery board and president of the church council. He served as the church custodian for the past 20 years. Gaylon loved to play dartball, going out to eat breakfast after church with his church friends. Gaylon and Lois loved to dance and followed the Top Notchmen for many years. In later years, he acquired a love for blue grass music. Gaylon is survived by his wife, Lois; son, Ricky; brothers, Earl (Linda) Gotliebson and Stanley Gotliebson; sisters, Marion Knutson, Ruth Parker and Sharon (Greg) Lind; brothers-in-law, Earl (JoAnn) Hunwardsen, Dale Hunwardsen, Gary (Mary) Hunwardsen and Roy (Janice) Hunwardsen; and also by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Ben Steinkraus, Curtiss Knutson, Larry Parker and Burdette Lorenzen; sisters-in-law, Vera Lorenzen and Rosalie Hunwardsen. The family would like to thank Gaylon’s brother, Earl, for all his support and also to Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire Hospital staff for all the special care that they gave Gaylon. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Holden Lutheran Church, N10065 County Road M, Colfax, with Pastor Matt Saarem officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2018, at Sampson Funeral Home, 1017 E. Railroad Ave. Colfax, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in Holden Lutheran Cemetery
