Roderick Toycen Obituary

Roderick M “Dick” Toycen, 92, of Colfax WI passed peacefully from this life to eternity on December 23rd 2016, surrounded by the presence and prayers of his family and friends. Dick was born on December 21, 1924 in Colfax, WI to Dermont (Derge) and Genevieve (Snow) Toycen. Dick lived almost his entire life in Colfax, mainly on Riverview Avenue. He was a shy, easy going Norwegian and was proud of his heritage (all except the Lutefisk). He served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946, serving his country during WWII after the death of his brother, Dermont Jr. Dick was always active and held multiple jobs in the area including the Toycen Insurance Agency, the US Postal Service, and Commercial Testing Labs. He was an active member of Colfax Lutheran Church and reflected his faith in every aspect of his life. This included volunteering his time at the Grapevine Senior Center and visiting Dunn County shut-ins. Dick enjoyed road trips, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, taking walks, visiting with friends, and spending time with his family. He was a lover of music with big band being his favorite. Dick played baritone in the Ludington Guard Band for 30 years. He is survived by his loving wife Eldoris (Ellie), his son Robert (Mi) of Kent WA, his daughter Linda (Eugene) Dachel of New Auburn, WI, and his son Mark (Deb) of Colfax, WI. He was a devoted grandfather to 8 wonderful adults; Ben (Melanie) Dachel, Jen (Shawn) Franklin, Carrie (Mike) Stoffel, Sarah (Garrett) Caffee, Casey (Eric) Dusza, Elizabeth Platt, Emily Toycen, and Katy Toycen and great-grandfather to 10 beautiful children. He is also survived by his sister Greta (Gilberts) of Jeffersonville, IN. Dick is preceded in death by his wife Ona (Erickson) of 44 years who passed in 1993, His wife Neoma (Hainstock-Chilson) of 10 years who passed in 2007, his parents Dermont and Genevieve, siblings Dermont Jr., Geraldine Lien-Johnson, Marcia Peterson, Don, and Grace Felland. He was well respected and adored by his family and in his community. He was a man of integrity, had a great sense of humor, and will be deeply missed by all. Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2016, at the Colfax Lutheran Church, 601 River St. in Colfax, with Pastor Leslie Walck officiating. Visitation will be prior to services from 12 to 2 p.m. at the church.
