Charles Hertel Obituary

Charles L. Hertel, age 86, of Colfax, WI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 13, 2015, at his daughter’s residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Amery, WI, on June 26, 1929, a son of Harold and Jennie (Santema) Hertel. Charles served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, from 1951 to 1953. Charles married E. Joan Johnson in Minnesota on May 8, 1961. Charles supported his family working as a dairy farmer. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid television watcher. Charles is survived by his children, Lee (Kimberly) Hertel, Arnold (Renae) Hertel, Patti (Paul) Grorud, Sherri (William) Beyrer, Terra (Ken) Millermon and Kimberly (Steve) Makowski; fifteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Deloris LaBlanc and Jeanette Koster. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, E. Joan (Johnson) Hertel on December 24 2014; son, Jeffrey Hertel; and brother, Alvin Hertel. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2015, at Sampson Funeral Home, 1017 Railroad Ave. in Colfax, with Pastor Josh Toufar officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Colfax, with Military Honors conducted by Russell-Toycen American Legion Post 131.
