Ellda Valaske Obituary

Ellda Valaske, 94, of Colfax, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Colfax Health and Rehabilitation. Ellda was born on March 22, 1920, in Hatchville, WI, to Christian and Emma (Fuhrman) Henkel. She worked in Menomonie at the Marion Hotel and at the Dime Store. On May 29, 1954, Ellda married Kenneth Valaske in Hatchville, Wis. and together they farmed in the town of Tainter for many years. She was a personal care provider for Julie Retzloff for over 10 years. Ellda enjoyed gardening, baking (especially lefsa), sewing and spending time with her family. She was an active member of Norton Lutheran Church, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and serving on the Ladies Aid. While at the Colfax nursing home, she volunteered her time peeling potatoes and folding laundry. Ellda is survived by her son, Randy (Joanne) Valaske; two daughters, Diane (Fred) Goers and Betty (Jerry) Arntson; five grandchildren, Tim (Gayle Viney) and Andy (Nicole Gant) Goers, Becky (Steven Fiene) Valaske, Nicole (Steve) Stockton and Kenneth Valaske; great-grandson, Cody Stockton; and daughter-in-law, Donna Steies She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ken; son, Roger; foster son, Wally Steies; sister, Emma Sather; and two brothers Walter and Herman Henkel. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, 2014, at Norton Lutheran Church with Pastor Bob Schoenknecht officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to services on Sunday at the church.
