Laila Mittelstadt Obituary

Laila B. Mittelstadt, age 98, of Colfax, WI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at The Neighbors of Dunn County Nursing Home in Menomonie, WI, under the care of St. Croix Hospice. Laila was born August 17, 1918, in Dunn County to Hartvil and Jennie (Loftus) Gunderson. She was raised north of Colfax on their farm with her six brothers and sisters. Laila married Garlen Mittelstadt on January 4, 1941. They moved to the southern part of Wisconsin where she worked for the Kellogg Company and Garlen worked for Harley Davidson Motorcycles until he was drafted into the Army. After his time in the military, they returned to Colfax where Laila worked several years for the Colfax Nursing Home as an Aide. Laila is survived by two daughters, Linda, (Rick) Pippenger of Banning, CA, and Kaye (Bob) Harrison of Menomonie, WI; five grandchildren: Brodey (Stephanie) Pippenger and their children, Kayley Garlen and Madilynn; Jason (Amy) Pippenger and their children, Aaron (Kim) and their children, Aiden and Jackson; Brandon (Jennifer Hall) and Ashleigh Pippenger; Cindy (Joddi) Wang and their children, Dalton and Madison; Jeff (Julie) Harrison and their daughter, Alicia; and Amanda (Jared) Trapp and their son, Beckett. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Laila was preceded in death by her husband, Garlen (1976); parents; two brothers, Raymond (Kay) and Juel (Agnes and Clara); four sisters, Gilma (Glen) Johnson, Nora (Carol) Peters, Betty (Allan) Knoepke and Idella (Ed) DeLapp. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Colfax Lutheran Church with Pastor Leslie Walck officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the church. Burial will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery, Colfax. The family would like to say thank you to Autumn Village in Menomonie and The Neighbors of Dunn County of Menomonie, St. Croix Hospice and Dr. JoAnna Setla and Dr. Steven Brown for taking such good care of Laila.
