Adrian Daniel Smith, age 89, of Colfax, WI, died, Monday, June 13, 2016 at the Colfax Health and Rehabilitation Center in Colfax. Adrian was the second son and the youngest child of Heth and Mabel (Card) Smith. Adrian was born August 31, 1926 in Richmond, Indiana. He attended public schools in Richmond. Adrian enlisted in the US Navy and served on the Destroyer USS Norman Scott during the last two years of WW II. Battles Adrian witnessed include two of the most famous; Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He attended the U of WI Madison where he studied Agriculture. Two years following which he became a partner with his parents at "Card Acres" where was engaged in operating the Dairy Farm. Adrian was a master at fixing things. "Why buy a new one, when you can repair the old one, the way it should have been done the first time." Adrian was a keeper of honey bees and the black bears loved him for that. He was also an experienced pilot and he and his friend, Dick Hilson flew his single engine "Champ" airplane to Alaska and back. He had many great adventures as he kept his airplane on the farm and even put skis on it for winter flying. Adrian is survived by his sister, Elaine Voelker of Midland, Michigan; niece, Carol Voelker of Bloomington, Indiana; nephews, Roger (Fina) Voelker of New York and Robert Voelker of Midland, Michigan; great nephew, Kevin Adrian Voelker; cousins, other relatives and many good friends. Adrian was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Raymond. A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Sampson Funeral Home in Colfax with Pastor Craig Conklin officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hill Grove Cemetery, Colfax with military honors accorded by Russell Toycen American Legion Post #131. Sampson Funeral Home is serving the family.
