Arlene A. Hanke (nee Wieland), formerly of Colfax, WI, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 16, 2014, at the age of 97 years and 10 months, at Cherokee Villa Nursing & Rehab in Cherokee, IA. Arlene attended Menomonie High School and graduated with the Class of 1933. She graduated from Luther Hospital School of Nursing in 1940. Arlene married Irvin Hanke on December 12, 1941. He passed away in 1990. Arlene is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Les) Odom of Spring Valley, CA; the Wieland Family; and her Cherokee, Iowa, family, relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Irvin; parents; brother, Ardelle (Eleanor) Wieland; sister-in-law, Lorraine Hanke Confer Lidster and family. Arlene will be laid to rest in Tainter United Methodist Church Cemetery in Colfax, WI. A Celebration of Arlene's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday (today), June 22, 2014, at Tainter United Methodist Church in Colfax. Sampson Funeral Home is serving her family. A special thank you to the staff at Cherokee Villa & Rehab Facility for their wonderful care in the last years of Arlene's life.
