Obituary

Bessie L. Jackson, 92, of Colfax, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017, at Colfax Health & Rehabilitation Center. Bessie was born of February 22, 1925, in Rusk, WI, a daughter to Harold and Louise (Houser) Williams. On October 6, 1943, Bessie married Merlin E. Jackson in Menomonie, and raised 3 sons, Harold, Butch, and Jim. Bess wore many hats. She was a teacher, a nurse, and a military mom. As a military wife, she lived in Colorado, Indiana, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Japan twice, returning home to Wisconsin to family and friends. She enjoyed many activities including snowmobiling, bowling, and golfing. In her later years, she really enjoyed quilting and gardening. Bess enjoyed sports, especially the Packers, Brewers, and High School sports. It was a special joy for her to watch her grandchildren play ball. She was a devote Christian and very active in church. She loved to sing in the choir and enjoyed weekly Bible Study. She is survived by her three sons, Harold (Judy) Jackson of Fall Creek, Butch (Lynda) Jackson of Colfax, and Jim (Pam) Jackson of Colfax; five grandchildren, Harold Jr. (Joyce), Brian, Cale (Gretchen), Heather (Joshua), and Jessica; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kassandra, Noelle, Reagan, and Viollet; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Bess was preceded in death by her husband of 72 1/2 years, Merlin in 2016; parents; and her brother, Bob. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Colfax United Methodist Church, 501 Cedar St, Colfax, with Pastor Craig Conklin officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2017, at Sampson Funeral Home in Colfax, and again one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Colfax.
