Obituary

In Fond Memory of Derrick Darwin Fjelsted Derrick D Fjelsted, a soul with an untamed spirit and a heart as vast as the open road, peacefully concluded his earthly journey on December 18, 2023, in Colfax, WI, surrounded by the embrace of his loving family. His valiant struggle against Esophageal and liver cancer found its quiet resolution. Born on January 14, 1966, in Burlington, WI, Derrick was the cherished son of Barbara (Peterson, Fjelsted) Black and the late Darwin Fjelsted. He is survived by his four beloved children, Amanda, Caitlin, Brittney, Devan and four adorable grandchildren, all residing in Minnesota. Derrick's memory lives on through his brother Keith and Angela Fjelsted of Naples, FL, his sister Sheila (Black) and Jerry Eck of St John's , FL, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. In his heart, Derrick held a special place for his girlfriend, Tara Pahl of Colfax. Derrick's passion for the open road was epitomized by the joy he found cruising on his cherished Harley Davidson. The wind in his face and the rhythmic hum of the engine were constant companions on his adventures. Summer days were spent on the water, where he reveled in moments aboard his pontoon, basking in the sun and creating enduring memories with Tara. An adventurer at heart, Derrick sought solace in the great outdoors, finding tranquility beneath the stars during camping escapades. Behind his stubborn exterior lay a man with a heart of gold, fiercely devoted to family and friends. In addition to his love for the road, Derrick was an avid photographer, capturing the beauty of life through his lens. The rhythm of his spirit was also expressed through his passion for playing the drums, a skill that brought joy to those fortunate enough to witness his musical talents. Derrick's sense of duty and commitment extended to his military service, beginning in 1984. He undertook basic training in Ft Leonardwood , MO, and AIT in Ft Sam Houston, TX, specializing as a pharmacy technician and Infantry. Derrick loved God and his country. He also wanted people to know that he was a devout Christian with a strong faith in Jesus. As we bid farewell to Derrick, may the echoes of his adventurous spirit and warm heart accompany us on our journeys through life.
