E. Joan Hertel, age 73, of Colfax, died peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at Dove Healthcare West in Eau Claire. She was born to George and Helen (Wold) Johnson on June 25, 1941, in Barron, WI. Joan graduated from Barron High School in 1959. She married Charles Hertel in Minnesota on May 8, 1961. Joan loved cooking for her family. She enjoyed music, knitting and sewing, and she spent many hours on her computer playing games and communicating with her family. She will be deeply missed by all. Joan is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles; children, Arnold (Renae), Patti (Paul) Grorud, Sherri (William) Beyrer, Terra (Ken) Millermon and Kimberly (Steve) Makowski; 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Annette (Michael) Gagner. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her son, Jeffrey. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at Sampson Funeral Home, 1017 E. Railroad Avenue, Colfax. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Colfax. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
