Gregory David Slind, 71, of Colfax, WI passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
He was born on December 21st, 1954, in California to Gerald (Jerry) and Marilyn (Elstad) Slind. They moved to Wisconsin and resided in Colfax for most of Greg’s life. He was the middle child and took full advantage of that role, keeping his parents and siblings on their toes.
Greg attended school in Colfax. His fondest memories were the good times with Colfax High Schoolfriends. He excelled at many sports, but basketball was his favorite. After graduating high school, he attended courses at the technical college and UW-Stout in Menomonie. He married Janet Sundby of Colfax, WI and they lived in Menomonie. They had two daughters, Megan and Miranda.
Greg worked at Midwest Manufacturing, where he started operating machinery and equipment and advanced to a production scheduler. He remained dedicated to the company for 44 years making many new friendships along the way. After retirement, he spent his time fixing up two rental properties before deciding to slow down and move back to Colfax.
Greg had many hobbies that brought him joy, but being outdoors was one of his favorite things. He could be found fishing, boating, chopping wood, and loved to walk in the woods. He grew and maintained a large garden and enjoyed canning vegetables. After many years of guidance from his father, he took on projects which included building things for his home, his children, and grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Packers, Brewers, and his favorite, Duke basketball. After many years playing various sports, he discovered his love of golf later in life and looked forward to outings with friends, especially if he played well that day.
He loved spending time with his family going to sporting events, concerts, and taking vacations. He was “papa” to his grandkids, relationships that he cherished. He loved to watch them grow up and always had treats on hand. No matter where he was or what he was doing, he always made the most of moments together. His family will forever cherish the laughter, love and memories shared with him.
Greg loved nothing more than the comfort of being at home with his cat, enjoying a quiet and peaceful life.
He is survived by his daughters, Megan (Jarod) Dachel and Miranda (Jason) Miller; grandchildren Brynn, Avery, Bryce, and Reese; siblings Mike (Karen) Slind and Susie (Doug) Rudesill; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Marilyn; and his good friend Tim Barstad.
Visitation will be held on Saturday October 24th, 2026 at 10:00 am at Sampson Funeral Home in Colfax, WI with a service at 11:00 am. Immediately following the service, family and friends are welcome to gather at the Evergreen Cemetery for burial. A celebration of life will be held at Whitetail Golf Course from 1:00-4:00 pm.
