Nevin T. Melgaard, 15, of Elk Mound, WI, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at his home. Nevin was born on October 16, 1997, in Eau Claire, WI, to Ken and Melanie (Gray) Melgaard. He attended Elk Mound School District and would have been a sophomore this coming school year. Nevin made the Varsity Track Team as a freshman, competing in the high jump, hurdles, and pole vaulting. Nevin enjoyed snowboarding, BMX trick riding, longboarding, poetry, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He had a passion for music. Nevin played the saxophone and even taught himself to play the guitar. Nevin was a member of Barum Lutheran Church and was confirmed in 2011. Nevin is survived by his mother, Melanie (Tom Elich) Melgaard; two sisters, Danielle and Chloe Melgaard; one brother, Mason Elich; maternal grandparents, Jerry (Shelby) Gray and Tim (Ella) Helland; paternal grandparents, Dave (Lois) Melgaard; and also by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Ken; maternal grandmother, Connie (Cooksey) Helland; paternal grandmother, Deanna (Siler) Barnard; and his dog, Sparkie. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2013, with the Memorial Service starting at 4 p.m. at Sampson Funeral Home in Colfax, WI, with Pastor Hal Schroetter officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
