Phyllis Geraldine Duncan, 91, a lifelong resident of Dunn County, died Sunday, March 1, 2015, at Colfax Health & Rehabilitation Center. Phyllis was born in the Township of Elk Mound, WI, on July 14, 1923, a daughter of Oscar and Ethel (Parker) Barum. Her family home was land purchased from the railroad by her grandfather when he came to this country from Norway. Phyllis had two sisters, Marjorie Stuart and Elaine Jensen, and a brother, Lester, who died in infancy. Her younger brother, Dewane was born ten years after her and was the last child born to her parents. Her eldest sister helped their mother with household chores, so Phyllis always claimed that she was the "unpaid, hired help", when it came to helping their father when the outside chores needed to be done. Phyllis married Isaac Duncan, who preceded her in death in 1984. Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Dianne (Gordon) Van Dyke of Colfax; two granddaughters, Heather Hanson of Oklahoma, and Sheila DeSchaaf of Arizona; four great-grandchildren, Isaac, Alyssa, Talon and Grace all of Arizona; her last surviving sibling, Dewane "Bud" (Barbara) Barum of Elk Mound; two nieces; a nephew; as well as grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Colfax Methodist Church, 501 Cedar St., Colfax, WI, with Pastor Craig Conklin officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, Thursday, at the church. Burial will be in Barum Lutheran Cemetery in the Township of Elk Mound. Sampson Funeral Home is serving her family. Phyllis requested that remembrances or memorials be given to the Colfax United Methodist Church.
