Phyllis L. Klukas, age 84 of Colfax, died peacefully in her sleep at home on Sunday, January 26, 2014. She was born on July 24, 1929, to Victor and Hazel (Olson) Sundby in Colfax. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1947. Phyllis married Howard Klukas in August of 1947. In 1948, they bought a farm and farmed for 41 years. She worked at the Colfax Creamery for a few years, first wrapping butter, then handing out supplies to the milk haulers and then in the office. In 1957, they had a new barn built and on June 4, 1958, the tornado took the new barn down so they had to have another barn built. She and Howard sold the farm to their son David in May of 1989. Phyllis and Howard have been members of Bethany Lutheran Church in Colfax all of their married life. She is survived by her husband of 66 Wonderful years, Howard; her five children, four boys, Donald, Gary (Deb), David (Sue French), Mark (Sandy) and one daughter, Tammy (Steve) Krall; 15 grandchildren, Travis Klukas, Kurt Klukas, Lori (Josh) McDonald, Missy (Jeff) Prince, Kris (Dave) Irwin, Jason (Shelly) Klukas, Jeremy (Sara) Klukas, Krista (Fiance Brian Loew) Klukas, Brianna Klukas, Lance Klukas, Matthew (Laura) Klukas, Cory Klukas, Heather Krall, Brittany (Kyle) Davis, and Karly Krall; 17 great-grandchildren, and her brother, Dale (Linda) Sundby. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at Sampson Funeral Home, 1017 Railroad Avenue, Colfax. Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2014, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 805 University Avenue, Colfax, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Pastor George Schweitzer will be officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery, Colfax.
