Raymond L. Johnson, age 84, formally of Colfax, WI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2017, surrounded by his family and in the care of Mayo Clinic Hospice at Heritage Court Memory Care, Eau Claire, WI. Raymond was born March 29, 1933, in Colfax, WI, to Jasper Ingwald and Ethel Alice (Henderson) Johnson. He graduated from Colfax High School with the class of 1952. Ray had served in the US Army from 1953-1955. Ray married Marlene Olson on July 1, 1956, at Colfax Lutheran Church. Ray started working for Rodger Vance Colfax Sheet Metal in 1955, which led him to working for Norby Appliance and Hovland's in Eau Claire. In 1968, Ray started his own heating and air conditioning business as Ray's Metal Works in Colfax and later formed a partnership with Vern Kressin which then became Ray & Vern's Metal Works. Several years later the partnership dissolved and the business was changed back to Ray's Metal Works and is still in business being operated by his children. Ray was a member of Russell-Toycen American Legion Post 131 for over 62 years, a life-time Kiwanis Chapter member for 40 years, a member of the Menomonie Masonic Lodge #164, member of the Zor Shriners where he enjoyed driving the Tin Lizzie Cars at parades, Mehara Shrine Club of Eau Claire, and the Scottish Rite of Eau Claire. Also the Colfax Volunteer Fire Department – serving as assistant chief and retired as Chief in 1995 due to an accident, a founding member of the Colfax Rescue Squad, life-long member of Colfax Lutheran Church having served on the church council and he also served on the Colfax Village Board. Ray is survived by his children, Mike, Craig, Pam (Tom) Mousel, and Mark all of Colfax; grandchildren, Josh (Megan) Mousel of Elk Mound, and Amy Mousel of Wausau; 1 brother, Al (Donna) Johnson of Colfax; 4 sisters, Janet Creaser of Menomonie, Marilynn Benish of Colfax, Linda (Mike) Andres of Garrison, MN, Bev (Mark) Lightfoot of Wilson, WI; sisters-in-law, Thelma (Bob) Johnson and Sally (Pete) Johnson of Colfax. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; parents; brothers, Robert, Ron, and Pete Johnson. Funeral Services will be held at Noon on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at Colfax Lutheran Church, 601 E. River St, Colfax, with Pastor Leslie Walck officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Sampson Funeral Home, 1017 Railroad Ave, Colfax, with a Masonic Service beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Colfax, with Military Honors conducted by Russell-Toycen American Legion Post 131. Per the family wishes, memorials should be directed to the charity of your choice.
