Obituary

Susan F. Olson, 67, of Colfax passed away at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire, Friday, October 23, 2015, with her husband and daughter by her side. Susan was born into a politically active family. She fondly remembered when her mother, Nancy, hosted a tea party for Jackie Kennedy; and her aunt, Kathryn Clarenbach, who was one of the founders of NOW; the National Organization for Women. Susan cared deeply about her hometown of Colfax. She served on the village board for two terms as a trustee, always looking for common sense solutions to village problems. Susan loved all kids, especially her grandchildren. She was passionate about teaching working in the Colfax school district for 15 years. Prior to that, Susan was at CESA 10 providing educational materials to school districts around northwest Wisconsin. She loved to travel. She took several trips to Europe, traveled extensively throughout the United States, and most recently attending a Christmas Market Tour through Germany. Susan loved excuses to travel to visit family near and far. Susan took a great deal of pride in the accomplishments of her children and step children and she didn't need to be persuaded to tell people of those accomplishments. Susan is survived by her husband of 21 years, Rick Olson; two daughters, Kathleen Frederick-Schector of Omaha, Nebraska, and Emma (Jerod) Aikman of Whitestown, Indiana; two step-children, Christopher (Chrisetta) Olson of Fort Rucker, Alabama, and Shaun (Heather) Olson of Colfax, WI; seven grandchildren, Kyana Olson, Kaylynn Olson, Addisyn Olson, Aynsley Olson, Cameron Olson, Ariana Aikman, and Iyla Aikman; brother, Bayard (Chris) Frederick of Fond du Lac, WI; sister, Martha Frederick of Albuquerque, New Mexico; parents-in-law Margaret and James Olson of Eau Claire; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Olson of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Ann (Dan) Shuda of Eau Claire, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews. Susan is preceded in death by her parents, Gordon Frederick and Nancy Beebe; brother, Peter Frederick; and a son, David Frederick-Schector. Services for Susan will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Colfax United Methodist Church, 501 Cedar St, Colfax, WI, with Pastor Craig Conklin officiating. Visitation will be held Friday at Sampson Funeral Home, 1017 East Railroad Avenue, Colfax, WI, from 5-8p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be private at a later date.
