Ruth Petra Ackerlund

Ruth P. (Jorgenson) Ackerlund, age 75, from Colfax, WI passed away on February 2, 2019 at Dove Healthcare-South in Eau Claire, WI. Ruth was born on October 17, 1943 in Colfax, WI to Hans and Brunetta (Brunn) Jorgenson. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1961. After high school, she met her future husband through friends and they danced into each other’s hearts at the Pines in Bloomer, WI. On November 17, 1962, she married James “Jim” G. Ackerlund at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cooks Valley. They were happily married for 56 years and celebrated their 50th anniversary surrounded by family and friends at The Plaza in Eau Claire, WI in 2012. Out of all the jobs she had through her life, being a mother to Jamie (Larry) Ackerlund of Colfax, Chris (Julie) Ackerlund of Matthews, NC, Robert (Anna) Ackerlund of Colfax, John (Stacy) Ackerlund of Plover, Steve (Jaclyn) Ackerlund of Colfax, Ray (Connie) Ackerlund of Plover, and Julie (Brian) Brandt of Eau Claire was her favorite. Although she was kept busy with all these children, she also worked at Gamble-Robinson, People’s State Bank in Colfax, Dr. Earnhart’s Medical Practice, Earnhart Homes, and Luanne’s Flower Shop. In her spare time, she enjoyed church activities and was the CCD coordinator at St. John’s in Cook’s Valley for 15 years, family get-togethers, shopping trips with her daughters and granddaughter, decorating her home, and after her retirement weekend trips with her husband. She was preceded in death by both her parents; father and mother-in-law, Raymond and Agnes (Dachel) Ackerlund; brother, Hans “Sonny” Jorgenson; sister, Marie Mayer; and brother-in-law, Robert Johnson. She is survived by her husband; 7 children; 18 grandchildren, Ashley (Alex) Ninneman, Dylan Luer, Arielle Ackerlund, Brett Ackerlund, Menley Ackerlund, Whitney (Casey) Ackerlund, Madeline Ackerlund, Audry Ackerlund, Brittany (Jared) Borowski, Miranda (Connor) Ackerlund, Joshua Ackerlund, Tyler Ackerlund, Ellie Ackerlund, Hayden Ackerlund, James H. Ackerlund, Oliver Brandt, Christian and Audrey Ebert; 5 great-grandchildren, Jackson Ninneman, Everly Ninneman, Emmersyn Ackerlund, Oscar Turrubiates, and Quinton Ackerlund; her sister and best friend, Thelma Johnson; sister-in-law, Darlene (Donald) Sykora; brother-in-law, Ronald Meyer; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4540 State Highway 40 in Cook’s Valley. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a Prayer Vigil at 7:30 p.m., on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Sampson’s Funeral Home, 1017 E. Railroad Avenue in Colfax, WI and again one hour prior to the Mass on Tuesday at the church. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Colfax, WI. We want to thank Dr. David Blair at the Mayo Clinic in Bloomer and the wonderful nurses at Dove Healthcare South for their attentiveness and thoughtfulness during Ruth’s visits.
